THE BEACH

Once you get to the beach you may find it difficult to leave!  The beach is great for relaxing, swimming, paddle boarding, snorkeling, surfing, kayaking and exploring.

Boat launching is via boat ramp at the northern end of the beach.  Just around the corner by boat we have Whangaroa Harbour - a renowned fishing destination, and our very own hole in the rock - accessible via boat or kayak (confident kayakers).

As well as our beautiful beach, we have a fantastic children's playground, a local food trailer serving delicious takeaways and gourmet meal boxes delivered to your door, plus a dairy at the camping ground that is open for essentials.

BEYOND (DAY TRIPS & EXCURSIONS)

If you can manage to drag yourself away from Taupo Bay, there are a number of day trips and excursions within easy reach.

Travel north 20 minutes to the quaint village of Mangonui, where you can explore craft and homeware shops, grab lunch at a local cafe, and supplies from Four Square.  Mangonui is also home to the renowned Mangonui Fish Shop.  Coopers beach is another 10 mins north, and has a slightly larger Four Square and a petrol station.

For a day trip, head further north to Matai Bay or Cape Reinga and Spirits Bay, and visit other renowned surf beaches Rarawa, Henderson Bay, 90 Mile Beach, Ahipara and Shipwreck Bay.

Northland has some great wineries, with Karikari Estate to the north, and many options in nearby Kerikeri to the south.

For the active explorers, check out the DOC walking tracks from Totara North, which offer spectacular views of Whangaroa Harbour; or try your hand at golf at the local Whangaroa Golf Club.
